About Portland Community Squash (PCS)
PCS serves 500+ families weekly, ages 4 to 84, with a focus on access, belonging, and lifelong engagement. What began as a youth development program has grown into a multigenerational model that’s now being replicated nationwide. We provide scholarships, meals, transportation, and mentorship - ensuring every family can participate fully.
Position Summary
Crew Leaders are the heartbeat of Portland Community Squash’s community engagement efforts. Each Crew Leader is responsible for recruiting and supporting a cohort of families, known as a “crew,” from designated local schools. This role combines mentorship, coaching, tutoring, program coordination, and grassroots outreach to ensure every family feels a sense of belonging and support. Crew Leaders serve as each family’s main point of contact, guiding youth through both squash and academic pathways, and tracking key developmental milestones over time.
Key Responsibilities
Family Recruitment & Onboarding
Recruit families from a designated list of partner schools.
Guide interested families through membership enrollment and onboarding.
Manage a “crew” of youth participants and their families.
Program Facilitation & Supervision
Oversee daily squash and academic sessions (Farm Team, Rally MS, Rally HS) for assigned crew members.
Coordinate transportation and ensure crew members meet attendance and behavior expectations.
Support participants during tournaments, summer camps (Fish Hawk), and non-crew clinics.
Mentorship & Guided Outcomes
Serve as mentor and academic guide, helping students meet individualized outcomes around opportunity, relationships, and well-being.
Track and report on student growth across guided and self-guided pathways.
Volunteer & Resource Management
Manage a $36,000 crew budget to support trips, supplies, transportation, and part-time staffing.Recruit, onboard, and supervise volunteers and part-time crew assistants.
Administrative & Communication Duties
Maintain attendance and REP (Respect, Effort, Positivity) data with 80% targets.
Communicate clearly with families regarding scheduling, expectations, and cancellations.
Collaborate with the Crew Program Director and fellow Crew Leaders to coordinate logistics, rotations, and shared program goals.
Qualifications
Passion for youth development, community building, and squash.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to coordinate logistics and maintain detailed records.
Experience working with diverse families and youth populations.
Comfort with managing behavior, setting boundaries, and supporting academic development.
Valid driver’s license and ability to manage transportation logistics preferred.
Schedule
Monday: 10:30 AM–2:30 PM admin; 2:30–6:30 PM Rally HS
Tuesday: 10:30 AM–2:30 PM admin; 2:30–6:30 PM Rally MS
Wednesday: 9:30 AM–1:30 PM admin; 1:30–5:30 PM Farm Team + Rally HS
Thursday: 10:30 AM–2:30 PM admin; 2:30–6:30 PM Rally MS
Friday: 9:30 AM–2:30 PM admin; 2:30–5:30 PM Farm Team
Compensation
$60,000 - $80,000. Commensurate with experience. Benefits include health insurance, paid time off, and access to wellness facilities and squash programming.
